<news:[Magic Competition@wiki] Newbie Winners!>
Winner: [NOOOPE] - The Mailbox:

There once lived this guy named Chuck. Chuck was a crazy reclusive type who lived in the middle of a forested island with 12 chickens who he once banked on being his emergency food. Luckily for the birds, they had all grown quiet fond of each other over the years and Chuck regarded them as family. After his monthly voyage inland for supplies, he’d make himself a fresh sandwich and sit atop his chicken coop, his poultry gathered at his feet. He’d give them voices, speaking subtly out of the corner of his mouth and discuss a variety of things. The weird dead fish he saw on the beach yesterday, Plato’s Republic... In his imaginary world, he was the voice of reason. He was the chicken king and as ridiculous as that may sound to you, he thought it was pretty sweet.

Congratulations!

Rules:

1 - Only people who have Not Won an official Elftown poetry or prose Competition before can enter. If you already have won a competition, then you can enter at Magic Written Contest for Veterans

2 - NO STEALING LITERATURE. The prose/poetry MUST be written by you. If anyone is found to be stealing someone else's work they will be disqualified from this and all future official written contests. The piece that you enter should be new, and must not have been submitted to a contest previously.

3 - No fan-fiction in this contest. We accept that you may be inspired somewhere, but if you write a story with a land called Marmia containing Baslam the lion, it's not going to cut it with us. Original work here please.

4 - If you're submitting a prose entry, the story must be no less than 500 words and no more than 3000. Obviously, verse entries can be far shorter, but certainly not longer.

5 – No pornography or excessive violence please. Use your common sense as to what would be acceptable and what not, but the crew's decision in this matter is final.

6 - You may submit one poem and/or one story to this contest (but not two poems or two stories).

7 - Quality restrictions. If you want us to put effort into reading the story/poem, put effort into writing it. Stories/poems with exceptionally bad spelling and/or grammar will be disqualified. If your story/poem isn't going to make the cut, we'll put a comment underneath the entry saying so.

What will we be expecting? Creativity!

Theme:

Magic. It's a very broad theme, so you've got lots of artistic license. Your story can be of someone casting a spell, or of a clearly magical object or creature. That means, some kind of spell or magical effect should be obvious in the story. Do not simply enter a story about magical creatures standing there. We want action! If you're not sure about your idea, ask in the comments, and one of the crew will give you an answer.

Entries not following the theme will be removed.

2008-05-26 [Chimes]: Is it only one entry per person?

2008-05-26 [windowframe]: hmm, I think one text entry and one poetry entry would be fine, but not two poems, or two stories. :)

2008-05-27 [Chimes]: That's fair. *rubs hands together in a plot-like way* Thank you. :D

2008-05-27 [Imperator]: lol, it's in the rules above.

2008-05-27 [windowframe]: I added to the rules because she asked. It wasn't there when she asked.

2008-05-27 [Imperator]: lol, I feel dumb now...

2008-05-27 [windowframe]: <img:stuff/zabuN-gif.gif>

2008-05-28 [Chimes]: Seeeee, I'm not silly. Well... that's debateable...

2008-05-30 [Duke Devlin]: Very debatable. ;)

2008-06-03 [Alexi Ice]: This contest is awesome.

2008-07-14 [shirono]: Would you say that vampires fall under the realm of the theme?

2008-07-14 [windowframe]: It depends what you write about vampires. ;) We already have one entry up that involves vampires, and they're performing magic, so it fits the theme. But, say, just a description of a vampire wouldn't fit the theme.

2008-07-14 [Alexi Ice]: Yeah, vampires are typically connceted to magic in many differnt ways, so it shoulden't be hard to fit them into the theme ^^ lol.

2008-07-14 [shirono]: Thanks, I'm not sure if the story I have written will work as is, but it shouldn't hard to do a bit of a re-write to make it fit the theme...it kinda needed a re-write either.

2008-07-14 [Chimes]: Dukey, hurry up and enter! :P

This contest will be hard to judge, I don't envy the judges.
